PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Red Sox pitcher Brad Penny will throw a 35-pitch side session on Sunday.
The right-hander played long toss Friday morning and then was examined by team physician Dr. Thomas Gill.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the results of the exam were good and everyone was pleased. If the side session goes well and Penny doesn't suffer any setbacks, he'll likely throw another one before pitching in a game.
The right-hander's side session was cut short last Sunday after he felt fatigue in his shoulder and could not get loose. He was scheduled to throw 40 pitches, but only tossed 25 before the session was stopped.
Penny dealt with shoulder issues all of last season with the Dodgers.
