With Dustin Pedroia out of action with a strained oblique, the US team has officially placed him on the disabled list and added Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts to the active roster.
The move was announced just as Team USA just took the field at Dolphin Stadium for their 8 p.m. bout with Puerto Rico. It's not clear who has more fans here, but the Puerto Rico's supporters are definitely louder. Equipped with their own orange versions of the "thundersticks" the Angels made famous a few years ago, the Puerto Rican crowd is making its presence felt.
The atmosphere outside the stadium was non-stop party for three hours before game time. Dancing girls, bands, rides, and food and drink everywhere.
With Dustin Pedroia headed back to Ft. Myers, Kevin Youkilis is the sole Red Sox representative. He'll bat fourth and play first base. Javier Lopez may pitch for the Puerto Rican team.
Rhode Island native Chris Iannetta isn't in the starting lineup, but he's expected to start in the next game.
