PORTLAND, Maine -- The Pawtucket Red Sox are sending another member of their club to the majors.
It's not a player this time.
PawSox broadcaster Dan Hoard has been asked by the Cincinnati Reds to fill in for Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman May 1-3 in Pittsburgh. Brennaman will be attending the 50th anniversary of the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association in Salisbury, N.C.
"I feel privileged to keep his seat warm," Hoard wrote on his PawSox blog.
Hoard joined the PawSox in 2006 and has 30 games of big-league experience with the Blue Jays, Mets and Reds.
Hoard and his PawSox broadcast partner, Steve Hyder, are two of the best in the league. Congrats to Dan and good luck!
Hoard joins Don Orsillo, Andy Freed, Gary Cohen and Dave Flemming, all of whom worked in Pawtucket before reaching the majors.
