Red Sox shortstop Jed Lowrie, who had surgery on his left wrist in Arizona last Tuesday, is expected to have the stitches removed next Friday. He will then join the club in Tampa next weekend to continue his rehab.
The 25-year-old infielder had been bothered with an ailing wrist since the beginning of last season, but was able to play through it. The Red Sox thought it best for Lowrie to rehab the wrist during the offseason and not have surgery.
When he arrived in spring training, he was healhty and ready to go, but when the regular season started he began to feel discomfort again and was placed on the DL. After visiting with five different doctors, it was decided he would have the procedure, which was a success.
He is expected back by the All-Star break.
Fellow shortstop Julio Lugo (knee) continues his rheab with the PawSox. He will play three games for Pawtucket this weekend in Lehigh Valley before joining the Red Sox on Monday in Cleveland.
