The Red Sox marketing gurus tried a new one on the players yesterday when it asked the team to walk through the stands - `Field of Dreams' style - for the pre-game introductions. Smoltz wasn't the only player afraid of getting tripped by a mass of high-fives and pats on the back. "I can probably do without going through the fans," said Mike Lowell. "There were a couple legs, little kids, I think it would have been very unfortunate if some little kid gets elbowed. But it was something different, it was alright." "I felt like a caged animal there for a while," said JD Drew. "We were stuck in a little bitty corridor or barricade, surrounded by screaming and yelling Red Sox fans. I felt like a gorilla at the zoo. It was neat." "It was all right but I was just afraid I was going to slip and fall because I had my cleats on," said Dustin Pedroia. "It was a little different, but it was fun. It was exciting, especially to be around the fans and to see the passion they bring . . . it was fun." CommentsLeave a comment |

What an incredibly stupid idea....you could see on television how difficult it was for the players to work their way through the crowd....and those steps can be challenging without fans screaming and grabbing at you. It would have been a real shame if someone got hurt doing that!
