| Sox could be at Fenway 40 to 50 years, Lucchino says »
Some highlights: -Schilling said his decision to retire had nothing to do with whether he could still play, but was simply a product of his wanting to do other things: "The ability to play baseball was not the issue and was not even a factor in the decision." -He said clubhouse issues late in his career in Boston, including the controversies surrounding Manny Ramirez, may have contributed to his desire to leave the game. -He said he is not dwelling on the strength of his Hall of Fame candidacy: "When that voting happens, I wont be in the kitchen waiting for the call." -He reiterated that he never used steroids: "It's one of the things that I can sit in front of the children [and say] ... I played my entire career, I never took steroids, I never took HGH. Didn't do it. And I'm proud of it." -He predicted that, if there is a significant difference, the A.L. East race will be decided by whichever team's starting pitching remains healthiest: the Red Sox', the Yankees' or the Rays'. "Whose ever rotation is the healthiest, I think will run away with this division." -He vowed not to go to any games at Fenway Park this season: "I will not be the seventh-inning, stand-up and wave former Red Sox guy, because I used to make fun of [those guys] every night." Thanks for two titles, Schill. The Sox would not have done it in '04 without him.
