Kevin Youkilis gave Fenway fans a frightening moment , but predictably, the Sox' hottest hitter made the most of the situation, and came around to score thanks to the miscue.
With Dustin Pedroia on base, Orioles reliever Danys Baez hit Youkilis in the head with a 93-mph fastball, the ball glancing off his helmet and caroming towards the Red Sox dugout.
Youkilis sat for a moment, but quickly stood, and walked to first base without a problem, accompanied by trainers and manager Terry Francona. His presence on base was not wasted by the Red Sox.
Following the beaning, Baez walked JD Drew to load the bases, and Jason Bay hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Pedroia. With runners on the corners, Mike Lowell rapped a single to left to bring Youkilis home and give the Red Sox a 10-8 lead.
They hold that going into the 8th.
