Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports says that it's too early to give up on David Ortiz, but if and when the time comes, there is no shortage of possible replacements. Promoting Chris Carter from Pawtucket is one option, Rosenthal says. Or, Rosenthal says, the Sox could swap some of their young pitching in exchange for one of these left-handed hitters in the final years of contracts: Rick Ankiel (Cardinals), Hank Blalock (Rangers), Jason Giambi (A's), Brian Giles (Padres), Aubrey Huff (Orioles), Adam LaRoche (Pirates), Chad Tracy (Diamondbacks). Two guys mentioned who will definitely not be coming to Boston: Jason Giambi (PEDs in his past), and Brian Giles, a soft player who turned down the chance to leave the awful Padres and come to the Sox as a 4th outfielder in yhe heart of the pennant race 2008. He would wilt here.
