PAWTUCKET -- Javier Lopez has cleared waivers and has accepted his minor-league assignment. The left-hander, who was designated by the Sox last week, just threw a side session at McCoy Stadium and he's hoping to get back to Boston at some point. "It's a long season and it's early. Things didn't work out the way I wanted them to up there. It's a special club and if you're not getting the job done they're going to get people up there [who can]. It's not a division you can really slack off in, so that's all the motivation I need." Lopez will not pitch Saturday night because he has not thrown in a week. -- JOE McDONALD |
