``It was quiet,'' Mondor said of the Mass held Monday for ``The Little Professor'' in Wellesley, Mass. ``It was very quiet and very nice.''

Mondor, the owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox, attended, as did Mike Tamburro, the PawSox president; former Pawtucket and Boston manager Joe Morgan; and John Harrington, former Red Sox CEO.

``Johnny Pesky (the former Sox star and coach) was there, too,'' Mondor said. ``He was very upset.''

The Mass was held at St. Paul's Church with seven priests taking part, a number of them from St. Anselm College.

``Dominic was very good to that school,'' Mondor related. ``He did a lot for that school.''

Mondor developed a close friendship with DiMaggio in the more than three decades he has owned the PawSox.

``He would come down every Sunday when we were home, and we'd sit and talk about the old times and the new times, talk about anything,'' Mondor related. ``He liked to sit in the heat. The cold would bother him.''

Mondor and DiMaggio both owned homes in Florida.

``We were near each other,'' Mondor said. ``I'd go over and we'd spend time. He always had the stock market on when I was there. I'd tell him to put something else on and he'd say, `This is how I make my living.' He was a quiet man who accomplished a great deal. When he played they didn't get paid much, but he became involved in the business and he did well.''
