Second baseman Dustin Pedroia was hit by a pitch in the left knee in the fifth inning of today's game. Despite some swelling, he should be back in the lineup tomorrow.
"It's swollen, yeah, but no big deal. I'll play tomorrow," he said.
Pedroia was nailed on the outside of the knee by a high-80s fastball from Toronto lefty Brian Tallet. He initially lay on the ground in pain, then stood, and then had to crouch again and talk with trainers a few feet down the first base line.
Pedey got hit on the side of the kneecap. Tough kid. He's going to be sore. He's got a little pad there on the front, but it hit him on the side.
Pedroia tried -- but failed -- to steal second base immediately after the hit, and he was certain this afternoon that this would not linger.
"If it was probably an inch lower, it'd be a lot worse, but no big deal. It'll be alright," he said.
