Rocco Baldelli has been pulled from the game in the fifth inning after sliding hard into the right field wall attempting to catch an Aaron Hill foul ball, but he does not appear to be badly hurt. He was attended by trainers for several minutes, and stood and walked to the dugout under his own power. He left the field gingerly, but did not have an obvious limp. J.D. Drew replaced him in right. He was taken for x-rays on a left knee contusion, according to the team. It capped a hectic 4.5 innings for Baldelli, who was held out of the last few games with hamstring issues. In the first, he bobbled an Aaron Hill single, the error allowing Hill to reach second and later score. He quickly made up for that in the top of the second, crushing a two-run home run to left center. In the fourth, Baldelli was camped under an easy fly ball in right center, when Jacoby Ellsbury came flying in calling for the ball. Baldelli still made the catch, as Ellsbury dropped his glove and raced by at the last moment, avoiding a collision. Baldelli stared at his centerfielder quizzically. |
