First baseman Kevin Youkilis left last night's Yankees-Red Sox game in the 6th inning with a tight lower-left back. Manager Terry Francona said he was unsure whether Youkilis would be available tonight for the second game of the two-game set. Youkilis was clearly in pain on some of his swings, and it appeared he may have aggravated the problem diving for a ball. "I don't know. He was tight. I think we did the right thing by getting him out there. HE was actually kind of grimacing on those swings, but he said he was fine. You just don't want to make a mistake with something like that," Francona said. The two-hour rain delay may have had something to do with the problem. After close to two hours of waiting, a start time was suddenly announced, and then the game was upon both teams. This disrupted Youkilis' rhythm, Francona said. "He kind of felt he was rushed out there before the game. He's very meticulous about his preparation," Francona said. Youkilis was replaced by Jeff Bailey at first base and in the cleanup spot. Youkilis is among the league leaders in many hitting categories, but was having a lousy night tonight, striking out twice, and grounding into a double play. CommentsLeave a comment |

if he is so very meticulous about his preparation, wouldn't 2 hours extra time help?
