ATLANTA _ Julio Lugo sat at his locker Saturday morning in the visitor's clubhouse at Turner Field feeling very confident.
He hasn't started a game since June 14 in Philadelphia as Nick Green has become Boston's everyday shortstop. Manager Terry Francona said he wants to keep Lugo sharp and thought Saturday was a good day to start him.
"When called upon, he's actually swung the bat really well," said Francona. "I want him to be sharp enough to help us win games. Green's played well, it's just a good day for Lugo to play."
Lugo enters the game 7-for-10 over his last six games. The Red Sox are 34-12 when Green plays short, and 10-13 with Lugo.
