David Ortiz got another day off today, replaced by J.D. Drew at DH and Rocco Baldelli in the sixth spot in the lineup.

Ortiz hit the ball well yesterday, but with a day game after a night game, and lefty Dontrelle Willis on the mound, Terry Francona felt it was a good time to give his struggling slugger a day off.

"This is a day where, regardless, there's a pretty good chance he's going to sit. Just makes sense. We can get Rocco's bat in there. Day game after a night game. You get a couple of fresh bodies. I think it works," Francona said.

Ortiz was positively jolly in the clubhouse before the game, holding court on topics ranging from why he can't swim to his recent celebrity sightings.

He had a hit for the third straight game Wednesday, going 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double and a 400-foot flyout to the warning track.
