ATLANTA -- Red Sox relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez ended Thursday's game in Washington with a strikeout. He wasn't pitching. He was batting.
To say the plate appearance was interesting would be a huge understatement. His teammates and manager were joking with him afterward about it. The needling continued in the clubhouse at Turner Field on Friday with Ramirez and fellow reliever Manny Delcarmen watching video of the at-bat.
Francona said he received a few phone calls because it was reported he was yelling at Ramirez after he ended the game with the strikeout. That wasn't the case, and the manager wanted to make sure everyone knows he was kidding with his pitcher.
"I told him he was a good pitcher and he [stunk] as a hitter," Francona said in jest.
