I was a little surprised that last night's game got in without any delay, and tonight's game looks like it will as well. The forecast for Boston calls for cloudy but mostly dry conditions, with temperatures climbing into the mid-60s (which would be about 10 degrees warmer than last night). The Red Sox get their first look this season at the Chien-Ming Wang, who will be making his second start since coming off the disabled list with what seemed suspiciously like a made-up injury (kind of like Dice-K). Wang didn't pitch very well his last time out, but at least he got out of the second inning. On the season, he's 0-3 with an unsightly 14.46 E.R.A. Wang is 6-5 against the Red Sox lifetime, with a 4.82 E.R.A. Here are Boston players' career numbers off Wang: -David Ortiz, 16 for 36 (.444), 4 2B, 2 HR, 6 BB Tim Wakefield goes for Boston, and he looks to once again become the Red Sox' winningest starter. Wakefield has is 7-3 on the season, now tied with Josh Beckett for the club lead in wins, with a 4.50 E.R.A. He has yet to face the Yankees this season, but tonight will be his 50th career appearance against New York (he has also faced Toronto 50 times). His record against the Bombers is 10-17 with a 5.03 E.R.A. Here are New York players' career numbers against Wakefield. By the way, A-Rod's seven home runs are tied (with Frank Thomas) for the most hit by any player off Wakefield: -Angel Berroa, 6 for 12 (.500), 2B, 3B |
