| Like the Red Sox, Yankees face a puzzling situation with starting rotation »
The Red Sox are on a roll, and the weather seems more likely to put a stop to the winning than the overmatched Florida Marlins. Tonight's weather forecast for Fenway Park calls for showers all night, becoming more numerous as the night goes on. Temperatures will be in the low- to mid-60s. In short, it will give the Marlins another reason to yearn for South Florida. The outlook for Friday night's home game against Atlanta is slightly more promising at the moment; although there are scattered showers in the forecast for Friday night, most of the rain looks like it will take place in the morning. If the Sox do play tonight, Jon Lester will look to extend his streak of hot pitching for Boston. The lefty is 2-0 with a 1.23 E.R.A. and 34 strikeouts in his last three starts. For the season, Lester is just 5-5 with a 4.76 E.R.A., but he's increasingly looking like the ace of the staff. Florida's scheduled starter, Ricky Nolasco, was the Marlins' ace last season, going 15-8 with a 3.52 E.R.A. But the 26-year-old's career has taken a major dip this season, as he's 2-6 with an awful 7.62 E.R.A. He has made two solid starts, though, since coming back from a demotion to Triple-A New Orleans. Lester has faced Florida once in his career; he went five innings and got a no-decision on July 2, 2006. Nolasco has never faced the Red Sox. |
