Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis has edged in front of the Yankees' Mark Teixeira in the latest American League All-Star vote results, in what is easily the closest race at any position.

According to results announced today on MLB.com, Youkilis has 1,110,366 votes, compared to Teixeira's 1,109,051. A third deserving candidate, Minnesota's Justin Morneau, is not too far behind with 937,057 votes.

Here's a quick statistical comparison of the three:

Youkilis: .331 BA, .463 OBP, .610 slugging, 11 HR, 38 RBI, 37 R
Teixeira: .284 BA, .387 OBP, .620 slugging, 20 HR, 54 RBI, 44 R
Morneau: .329 BA, .401 OBP, .598 slugging, 16 HR, 54 RBI, 48 R

As a result of an early season DL trip, Youkilis has played in 10 fewer games than Teixeira, and 16 fewer games than Morneau.

In other A.L. results:

-Boston's Jason Bay is by far the top vote getter among outfielders, followed by the injured Josh Hamilton of Texas and perennial All-Star Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle.

-Dustin Pedroia remains second by a healthy margin to Texas' Ian Kinsler at second base.

-Jason Varitek is a distant second to Minnesota's Joe Mauer at catcher.

-Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria is the number-one overall vote getter. With nearly 2 million votes, he is way out in front of the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez.

-Derek Jeter is a shoe-in to make the start at shortstop. The Sox' Jed Lowrie, who has barely played this season, is still the fifth-leading vote getter.
