Kevin Youkilis is hitting third and playing first base today, and doesn't appear to be showing any ill effects from Detroit's Josh Anderson running over his heel last night. "It's a bruise," Youkilis said. Youkilis got treatment on the area, but the team's worst fears -- that he had been spiked -- were avoided. "I'm sure he feels it. But he's in there getting treatment, they're rubbing it out. Whatever they're doing. He's fine. He's ready to go. I think it was more of a shock. I think it whacked him good. I think he got scared. I think what scared us is we thought he got spiked," manager Terry Francona said. Youkilis was hurt when Nick Green bobbled a ball at shortstop, and fired a late throw to Youkilis at first. Youkilis stretched out for the ball, and Anderson appeared to kick through his foot as he crossed the base. Youkilis rolled around the field in pain, spiking his glove into the ground like a football. He left the game, but walked off the field under his own power. |
