Now it appears the Dodgers are in the lead for the right-handed ace. Talks with the Red Sox have calmed down -- for now. Halladay isn't the only Blue Jays player other clubs are interested in. The Cincinnati Reds are talking to the Blue Jays about the possibility of acquiring infielder Scott Rolen. The Blue Jays would want minor-league prospect Yonder Alonso in return. The first baseman is a product of the University of Miami and carries a big bat. He was the Reds' first pick (seventh overall) in the 2008 draft. --JOE McDONALD CommentsLeave a comment |

The Jays might want Alonso for Rolen but that doesn't mean it is happening. I'm a Reds fan and I want Tim Lincecum for AAA lefty Travis Wood. Does that mean it is going to happen or should be printed? I mean doesn't everyone want to get a team's top prospect for a veteran at this time of year.
If the Reds trade Alonso for Rolen it would be the second worst trade in Reds history only after the Frank Robinson deal.
This shouldn't have appeared on the internet and should not have been picked up by mlbtraderumors.com because it is so preposterous.
If it happens Walt Jocketty must be declared senile and taken to an assisted living home immediately!

making stuff up is certainly a good way to get people to visit your blog.
#1 draft pick alonso for a 34-year-old 3B with declining power numbers? i've never read anything so ridiculous in my entire life.

I have been tracking this Joe Mcdonald for the last few weeks. He has been right on so far. I find the Rolen for Alonso trade far fetched also but Jocketty does have history with Rolen and Alonso has been hurt a lot. Alos Alonso has some off field stuff to consider.

Of all the horribly stupid, ill-informed baseball chatter that comes out of New England, it's hard to top this BS about the cash-strapped, going-nowhere Reds trading their top prospect (one of the best hitting minor leaguers in the game) for a year and 2 months of an old third baseman with a glass shoulder. This was never discussed, unless you count the Jays saying they'd like Alonso and the Reds saying "Good try anyways." Nice reporting, egghead. Anything else you care to completely make up and put on the internet?

PS Alonso has had exactly one injury in pro ball: it was a broken wrist last month. Hardly the kind of tweaked hammy you get with injury prone people. I have no idea what off-field stuff you can be talking about other than that he's worked out with Alex Rodriguez. How that counts, I have no clue.
