BOSTON -- The problem with Jed Lowrie's injured wrist that caused him to leave Wednesday's rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket is not believed to be serious, and Lowrie left the game more as a precaution than because of a serious problem. But the team still plans to have him undergo more extensive examination. "He has been examined by our trainers, he will be looked at by [team doctor Thomas Gill], but the initial report from the trainers is really positive. I think it was more precautionary, and I think this is something he can probably play with. But we'll certainly get him checked out further," manager Terry Francona said. Lowrie underwent surgery on the wrist in April, and has experienced nerve problems since returning in July. He went back on the disabled list in early August. He hit three home runs in the first two games of his rehab stint this week, but left the third, Wednesday, after only one at-bat. As of late afternoon, Lowrie hadn't met with Gill yet. -- DANIEL BARBARISI |
