The Boston Red Sox are back in the driver's seat in the American League wild-card race, with a one-game lead over the Texas Rangers, who for the second night in a row lost at home to the Minnesota Twins after blowing a big lead.
Texas was out in front 4-0 after four innings but ended up losing, 5-4, as Kevin Millwood faltered in the fifth and sixth innings. On Tuesday night, Texas led 5-0 after three innings, but eventually lost, 9-6.
The Rangers have one more home game against Minnesota tonight before heading to Tampa Bay for a hugely important weekend series with the Rays, who are still hanging around, just three games behind Boston and two behind Texas. For now, it looks like a three-team race for the wild card between the Sox, Rangers and Rays.
Boston, of course, hosts the Yankees (who are a comfortable seven games out in front in the American League East) for three games this weekend at Fenway.
Here are the Sox' pitching matchups for tonight's game in Toronto, and the three games against the Bombers:
Thursday: Jon Lester (9-7, 3.71) vs. Brett Cecil (5-1, 4.35)
Friday: Brad Penny (7-7, 5.22) vs. Andy Pettitte (9-6, 4.09)
Saturday: Junichi Tazawa (1-2, 5.40) vs. A.J. Burnett (10-6, 3.69)
Sunday: Josh Beckett (14-4, 3.38) vs. CC Sabathia (14-7, 3.58)
