The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo is reporting that the Red Sox have recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket, amid speculation that catcher Jason Varitek may be placed on the disabled list. The Red Sox are also expected to activate outfielder Rocco Baldelli tonight, he will likely take the place of recent acquisition Brian Anderson. Bowden had been due to start tomorrow for Pawtucket. He is 4-6 with a 3.20 E.R.A. on the season. He has pitched twice in the majors -- picking up a win in a spot start against the Chicago White Sox last season, and pitching effectively in relief this season in a Boston win over the Yankees. |
