The Boston Red Sox released Brad Penny after last night's game to make room on the roster for relief pitcher Billy Wagner. The news was first reported by The Boston Herald. Penny told the newspaper he was thankful for the chance the Red Sox gave him. He will be placed on release waivers and have the chance to potentially join another team before postseason rosters are set.
