BOSTON -- Ailing pitcher Tim Wakefield is scheduled to receive a cortisone shot in his lower back on Monday and is hopeful he'll be able to return to the mound next week.
The veteran knuckleballer has made only one start since the All-Star break due to the back injury and a calf strain. He was originally scheduled to start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in St. Petersburg. Instead, Jon Lester was pushed back and will get the nod against the Rays.
