Josh Beckett, who was scratched from his start Monday with back spasms, threw a successful side session today, and appears on track to make his next start Saturday.

"Sixty-two pitches, and everything went great," manager Terry Francona said.

Beckett received several minor cortisone shots into his tight back muscles yesterday, but general manager Theo Epstein said they were not a major problem, and Beckett should be healthy going forward.

"Beckett threw a really good side, he felt great. It's significant news for us. We were really optimistic, but this confirms that he's in really good health," Epstein said.

Beckett is 16-6 with a 3.78 ERA on the season.
