wagner_1013.jpgBean Stringfellow, the agent for Red Sox relief pitcher Billy Wagner, says that his client has given him no indication that he wants to retire and says that comments made by Wagner and reported in the New York Post were probably made in the heat of the moment following the Red Sox' season-ending loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Stringfellow's comments were reported by the Boston Herald's Michael Silverman.

"Those comments probably came right after the Red Sox [team stats] lost, so I'd bet they were said in the heat of the moment, when he was very frustrated. That's probably not the best time to take comments like that as gospel," Stringfellow told Silverman.

The Red Sox have agreed not to pick up an $8-million option on Wagner for next season, which means that he is probably headed for free agency if he decides to return to baseball in 2010.
