Ripken's fan base, however, is not playing a big part in the Baltimore Celebrity Smackdown. An online contest put on by the web site of the Baltimore Sun, The Smackdown has been matching up Baltimore celebrities in a March Madness-style bracket to see who is the biggest celebrity in the city. The contest is now in its second round, and Ripken has already advanced past local sports anchor Scott Garceau. Now he is, unfortunately, facing Stacy Keibler, a former Ravens cheerleader and World Wrestling Entertainment "talent". Ripken's not even close. As of right now, with 8,000 votes registered on the Baltimore Sun's web site, Keibler had nearly 78 percent of the tally. That might be a more difficult mountain to climb than even Lou Gehrig's consecutive hits record. |
