mills_1022.jpgAccording to the Houston Chronicle, Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills is one of three front-runners for the vacant Astros managing job. The newspaper reports that Mills, along with former Nationals manager Manny Acta, received a second interview with the team on Wednesday.

The third strong candidate appears to be Phil Garner, who managed the Astros to a 277-252 record from 2004 to 2007, including a World Series appearance and two National League Championship Series. Why did they get rid of him again?

Mills has been the Red Sox' bench coach ever since Terry Francona arrived as manager in 2004. He was Francona's first-base coach in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2000. This would be his first big-league managing job.
