| Lowell hurts ankle but x-rays negative, expects to play Friday »
BOSTON -- Consider Jon Lester playoff-ready. Lester bounced back from his scary previous outing in New York last Friday -- in which he limped off the mound after being struck on the right leg by a Melby Cabrera line drive -- and dominated the Cleveland Indians for six-plus innings as the Red Sox won Thursday night at Fenway Park, 3-0. Lester limited the Indians to just two hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked only one in an 84-pitch outing. Daniel Bard, Billy Wagner and Jonathan Papelbon followed Lester to the mound and combined to limit the Indians to one hit over the game's final eight outs. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Red Sox. Terry Francona sent his 'A' lineup out for the game and the offense produced 12 hits. -- KEVIN McNAMARA |
