mccourt_1015.jpgKen Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, the former Boston real-estate mogul who made an unsuccessful bid to purchase the Red Sox earlier this decade, is in divorce proceedings with his wife, Jamie, the team's CEO, and that the future of the team may well hang in the balance.

Sources have told Rosenthal that the divorce will be a nasty one: "They're trashing each other terribly," said one. "It's going to be World War III."

Rosenthal reports that community property laws would probably result in a 50-50 split of the couple's interest in the team, and that Jamie McCourt's finances would probably put her in a better position to buy out her husband than vice versa. Frank McCourt reportedly financed much of the purchase price he paid for the team when he bought it from Rupert Murdoch's Fox Entertainment.

A divorce involving Padres owner John Moores helped prompt the sale of that team earlier this season.
