I could not care less how much money teams spend on talent. The amount, in and of itself, isn't what's important. The problem in MLB, which doesn't have a salary cap, is that major-market teams such as the Yankees and Mets, the Dodgers and Angels, the Cubs and White Sox, the Red Sox, and the Phillies can significantly outspend teams in smaller markets, giving those big-market teams a significant competitive advantage. If they fail to take advantage of it, shame on them. What's also a shame is that, In MLB, there's no way a team like the NFL's Green Bay Packers possibly could challenge consistently for a championship. Revenue sharing, along with the draft and the NFL's method of scheduling, enables pro football teams to have better overall competitive balance, which makes the sport more interesting and exciting than MLB's system, where the rich get richer, enabling teams to buy titles. Donaldson begins his column with "I could care less."
One can only assume (hope) that he intends to say "I couldn’t care less," the meaning of which is “it is impossible for me to have less interest or concern in this matter, since I am already utterly indifferent.” At least it makes logical sense when used in this way.
The illogical inversion (“...could care less”) has arisen, over time, due to a mistaken interpretation of the statement's true meaning. Taken literally, if one could care less, then one must care at least a little, which is obviously the opposite of what Donaldson means.
More importantly: shouldn't writers at the Journal know and observe such BASIC differences in meaning...and how to express their meaning with clarity? As some might say, this isn't rocket science.
Maybe recent staffing cuts at the ProJo included copy editors and proofreaders. If so, it was obviously a mistake. At least a few should be brought back to Fountain Street before things deteriorate further.
My main point here? At a respectable newspaper, writers should know and understand what they're writing. ProJo management should care MORE!

Uhmmm, doesn't it say " I could not care less"?
Maybe you should take reading lessons before trying your hand at grammer correction.
Sounds like you are all PO'd about being laid off by the Journal.
