Catcher Mark Wagner, one of the top prospects on the Pawtucket Red Sox roster, has been placed on the disabled list because of a broken bone in his left forearm.
Wagner, an excellent defensive catcher who was hitting .226 with two home runs in 53 at-bats, is expected to be out six to eight weeks.
He was injured Thursday night. He took a swing and then called for help. He was examined for several minutes before Lars Anderson, who had been promoted from Double-A Portland earlier in the day, was sent up to pinch-hit for him.
Dusty Brown, who had been splitting the duty with Wagner, is expected to take over at the team's regular catcher. Gustavo Molina, who had been on the disabled list, has been activated as the second catcher.
