The Pittsburgh Pirates reacquired outfielder Jonathan Van Every from the Red Sox, MLB.com has reported. Van Every was designated for assignment nine days ago to make room for the returning Jacoby Ellsbury. The 30-year-old outfielder hit .211 with a solo home run in 19 at-bats with the Red Sox while Ellsbury and Mike Cameron were on the disabled list.
(Ellsbury since has been placed back on the disabled list and replaced by reliever Scott Atchison.)
In exchange, the Red Sox received 22-year-old catcher Josue Peley, who's hitting .179 with an on-base percentage of .222 in his second season at Single-A West Virginia. The former 35th-round draft pick hit .188 with an on-base percentage of .246 in his first full season with West Virginia. He's thrown out 10 of 26 would-be base-stealers this season; he threw out 37 of 85 last season.
