As expected, the Boston Red Sox have added right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden to the roster. He will be in uniform and available to pitch tonight's game against Tampa Bay.
Bowden, who turns 24 on Thursday, has made six relief appearances this season, giving up 4 earned runs in 6 innings. He started the season at Triple-A Pawtucket as a starter before being converted to relief; his final numbers in 31 appearances (16 starts) were a 6-4 record with 1 save, a 3.66 ERA, 77 strikeouts and 37 walks.
Triple-A hitters batted .222 against Bowden. He's been less of a mystery to big-league hitters, who have hit .370 against him so far this year and .342 against him in his 15 career appearances with Boston.
