Wells throws in simulated game
Red Sox left-hander David Wells pitched for the first time this spring at the Sox' minor-league facility in Fort Myers, Fla. Facing a collection of minor leaguers, Wells worked three innings, allowing five hits and two runs, both earned. He walked none and struck out one. He threw 53 pitches, 34 for strikes. A handful of scouts from other major-league teams watched.
Wells demanded a trade in the off-season. He rescinded that request in early March, but the Red Sox, with an abundance of starting pitching, are still thought to be looking to move the veteran pitcher.
