Impossible Dream Sox to be honored at Fenway opener

In what the Red Sox say will be the first of a season-long series of events honoring the 1967 American League champions, the home opener next Tuesday will be a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Impossible Dream team.

More than 20 members of the team -- including manager Dick Williams and Hall of Famer left fielder Carl Yastrzemski -- will be on the field for the pregame ceremonies prior to the Sox' game against the Seattle Mariners. Harry Connick, Jr. will perform America the Beautiful and there will be a flyover by The Green Mountain Boys of the 158th Fighter Wing from the Vermont Air National Guard.

Among the '67 players currently scheduled to appear (list is subject to change):

Manager Dick Williams; pitchers Gary Bell, Dennis Bennett, Darrell Brandon, Galen Cisco, Bill Landis, Dave Morehead, Dan Osinski, Billy Rohr, Jose Santiago, Lee Stange and Gary Waslewski; catchers Russ Gibson, Jerry Moses and Mike Ryan; second baseman Mike Andrews; shortstop Rico Petrocelli; infielder Dalton Jones, and outfielders Ken Harrelson, Reggie Smith, George Thomas and Carl Yastrzemski.

The players will also attend the 2007 Welcome Home Dinner that night at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Ace '67 pitcher Jim Lonborg will be unable to attend the Opening Day ceremonies because of a previous commitment, but he will be at the dinner.
